Designer II- Footwear

Key Accountabilities :

  • Work with the category team to better understand market and consumer needs.
  • Keep abreast of seasonal trends including silhouettes, lasts, materials and colors. 
  • Design to product briefs for both brand driving and commercial product.
  • Communicate/present design concepts through 2D sketching or 3D mock-up, providing details as necessary at key seasonal milestones.
  • Create supporting artwork that illustrates design concepts and tell stories to the Marketing, Merchandising and Sales teams.
  • Design to cost while maintaining functional, technological, and aesthetic needs.
  • Create and maintain all design related files, selecting colors, materials, components and treatments and transferring to cross-functional teams as necessary, including.
  • Design function and technology into product while still designing to cost
  • Design new components or innovate with existing ones, creating technical drawings for manufacturing.
  • Identify new or concepts, materials, manufacturing processes, etc. in which to improve the overall process and product.
  • Create tech packs and other materials to hand-off to the Development team for sample and production manufacturing.
  • Contribute in construction and prototype review sessions.
  • Meet seasonal calendar deadlines with deliverables as outlined by your manager.
  • Mentor more junior designers

  • Strong communication, organizational and presentation skills.
  • Able to receive design critique and respond with multiple solutions.
  • Able to illustrate designs & concepts in both hand sketch and rendered forms.
  • Knowledge of technical processes with the ability to address pattern adjustments, blueprint revisions, and lasts at a general level.
  • Strong, influential team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Able to respond quickly to multiple projects with strong time management skills.
  • Able to work effectively within a cross-functional team consisting of Marketing, Development, Engineering, Production as well as other Design teams, for maximum productivity.

Qualifications (Minimum required education and experience):

  • 5+ years of footwear design experience
  • Well-established knowledge of the footwear manufacturing process.
  • An understanding of footwear construction, materials and their application to footwear designs as well as understanding of material development process.
  • Advanced level Adobe Illustrator; Photoshop and 3D software a plus
  • Good negotiating and influencing skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in product, industrial, automotive or interior design
