Footwear Development Manager

 

Purpose:

Manages the development of footwear products, from design through commercialization, in support of

marketing and design specifications, and the “perfect fit” objective. Provides effective transition of footwear

designs from proto-type into production while monitoring manufacturability, material selection, quality

standards, the bill of materials and development schedule.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Engineers product that consistently exceeds consumer expectations with respect to fit, comfort,

fashion, performance, perceived value, and quality; Identifies product needs and engineers the

product in a way that maximizes product attributes while minimizing cost.

• Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with internal stakeholders; clearly

communicates the corporate and category strategy and the impact of each project and ensures on

time product releases.

• Takes ownership for the entire development process for assigned products, with an emphasis on

quality product development and timely completion of all tasks in accordance with the applicable

operating calendar.

• Exhibits a “product eye”; has a feel for styling, product cosmetics and who the target consumer is, in

turn, helping to drive the direction of the overall product direction.

• Actively participates in product teardown sessions to evaluate the engineering of each model and

compare to requests and costs.

• Utilizes internal systems and communication tools to expedite development process.

 

Key Relationships:

Internally: Product Marketing, Design, Product Testing and Engineering, Product Creation Technologies,

Quality, Costing, FE Development, Production Operations, and Sourcing

Externally: Factory personnel, material suppliers, fit testers, vendors, athletes, and consumers

 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Strong project management skills

• Ability to work independently under minimal guidance on several projects simultaneously while

adhering to a specified deadline.

• Knowledge of the shoe making process; ability to read shell patterns, blueprints, spec sheets, cost

breakdowns, etc.

 Understanding of the costing process; ability to decipher cost breakdowns and relate to product.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to effectively interact with different departments (marketing, design), Far East/Liaison Offices,

and manufacturing partners via phone, written communication, and in person.

• Ability to create, plan and deliver presentations.

Mindset to improve processes, challenge status quo in order to reach Creation Center Goals of Speed,  Complexity Reduction and Consumer Service.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

1.     Four year college or university degree.

2.     3-5 years related work experience in the athletic footwear industry, specializing in product development, design and/or marketing.

3.     International travel required as requested

4.     Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for degree.

5.     Passion and interest in athletic competition or fitness related activities
