Coordinator, Customs Compliance

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization:
This position is responsible for providing support to ensure all import and/or export activities adhere to U.S. government import/export laws and regulations. This position will handle day to day import and/or export related operational activities and issues involving both internal and external stakeholders.

 

Key Responsibilities: 
•    Supports and resolves daily import/export compliance and clearance issues with CBP, Census, Customs brokers, and 3rd party logistics providers 
•    Processes orders for export from internal requests and generates appropriate documentation within internal export software systems
•    Communicates and coordinates necessary shipping arrangements/instructions with logistics providers to ensure goods deliver to customers as expected
•    Files electronic export information (EEI) when required to comply with U.S. Census Bureau’s Foreign Trade Regulations
•    Responsible for daily audit of broker filed entries prior to duty payment for accuracy
•    Communicates with various internal stakeholders on duty payment activities
•    Implements compliance measures for monitoring of Customs broker entry errors
•    Maintains import/export files and records in accordance with U.S. government regulations and company policies
•    Utilizes the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) portal for import/export compliance activity reporting
•    Creates, updates and/or maintains SOP’s for import/export processes and activities 
•    Assists with creating, updating, and maintaining import/export processes and procedures
•    Supports the collection of data for daily, monthly, and quarterly reporting and KPI’s
•    Supports global and regional Customs initiatives and projects related to import/export activities
•    Supports the company’s participation in government programs such as Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) and the Importer Self-Assessment (ISA) risk assessment
•    Participates in and attend import/export compliance training seminars and meetings as needed and/or required

 

Key Relationships: 
•    Internally: Transportation, Finance, Legal, Tax, DC Ops, Retail, Liaison Offices
•    Externally: CBP and PGA’s, Custom brokers, factories, 3rd party logistics providers

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
•    Knowledge of the imports, exports, Customs brokerage, HTS classification, inventory control systems, warehousing and logistics activities
•    A strong internal and external customer service attitude
•    Detail oriented with strong organization skills, ability to prioritize and multi-task
•    Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet daily deadlines
•    Ability to define problems, collect data, establishes facts and draw valid conclusions
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
•    Self-motivated and capable of working as part of a team or alone with little supervision
•    PC Literate – strong Excel and Access skills.

 

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications: 
•    College degree or equivalent relevant experience
•    2 – 4 years of relevant experience
•    Certified Customs Specialist or Certified Export Specialist is a plus
