Customs Compliance Analyst

Purpose

This position is responsible for monitoring, analyzing and reporting key import and export (including FTZ) related activities and metrics to ensure the company is in adherence with appropriate U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other government laws and regulations.  This role will be the key resource for the Customs team for reporting and analytical needs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, perform, and enhance import, export and FTZ analysis and reporting that will support the entire Customs team to drive Customs compliance solutions that maximize efficiencies
  • Lead engagement with IS and other resources within the business to support solutions on Customs compliance matters to mitigate risks
  • Plan, manage, and lead Customs related projects and analysis
  • Perform project management related tasks to enable delivery of team assignments and objectives
  • Seek automation opportunities and leverage technologies to drive compliance with global trade regulations
  • Collects and analyzes data for daily, monthly, and quarterly reporting and KPI’s
  • Creates and maintains compliance reporting dashboards
  • Accountable for calculating and communicating monthly Customs cost savings reporting (ex. preference, assist/TAC, FTZ and first sale)
  • Builds internal tools and implements process improvements
  • Interfaces with internal and external stakeholders including government agencies as necessary
  • Educates members of the Customs team on how certain data points can be used to improve processes, reporting and/or audits
  • Audits and analyzes Customs broker spending and identify areas of improvement by providing recommendations to management
  • Verifies and maintains recordkeeping procedures for documentation pertaining to Customs entries are kept in accordance with CBP and company policies
  • Subject matter export for the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) portal for import compliance activity reporting
  • Creates, updates and/or maintains procedures and SOP’s for import, export and FTZ processes and activities as needed
  • Performs other miscellaneous analytical tasks as needed or required
  • Participates in global and regional Customs initiatives and projects
  • Supports activities relating the company’s participation in government programs such as Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) and CTPAT Trade Compliance
  • Participates in and attends training seminars and meetings as needed and/or required

 

Key Relationships

  • Internally: Custom Compliance, Export, FTZ, Transportation, Finance, Legal, Tax, DC Ops
  • Externally: CBP and Other Government Agencies, Custom brokers, factories, 3rd party logistics providers

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of import, export, and FTZ processes/operations
  • Highly detail oriented/analytical and adaptive to change
  • Strong organization skills, ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet daily deadlines
  • Able to work with multiple stakeholders to spot inefficiencies, find solutions, and drive process changes
  • Excellent teambuilding and collaborative abilities
  • Can receive feedback and apply it effectively to their daily work
  • Self-motivated and capable of working as part of a team or alone with little supervision
  • Advanced Excel (Power Query, Pivot Tables, Visualizations) and Access skills (SQL)
  • Experience and familiarity with BI Tools (MicroStrategy, Tableau, etc.) and Project Management Tools (MS Project, Smartsheet)
  • Ability to learn and use a variety of systems to report data and answer questions (ACE, Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE, GTNexus, Tradecard, DAMCO/My Maersk, GCP, LogNET, FedexGTD)
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex and unfamiliar ideas to any audience in a meaningful way

 

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education or relevant experiences
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in Customs Compliance and/or Finance or Auditing
