Director Digital Experience

I. General Purpose

As a Director Digital Experience in adidas China Digital Hub you are responsible for the design of adidas’ digital products and touchpoints in China. You would lead and manage the UX and UI teams in the day to day design activities, collaborating with product and other market operational (i.e. ECOM) teams. You would bring to life and live the practice of consumer centric design approaches and methodologies, ensuring that the highest level of creation, craft and execution is addressing well framed and defined opportunities. Ultimately you will drive the evangelization, education and advocation on how high-quality design connects to tangible business results, builds brand equity, and consumer loyalty.

 

 

II. Key Responsibilities

Scope: UED of adidas China’s digital products and touchpoints

 

  • Instill the practice of consumer centric design philosophy, approach and methodologies
  • Ensure a high caliber and consistent design craft end to end
  • Ensure design opportunities are framed correctly, and that solutions are robust, steeped in clear rationale and intentional, balancing and understanding of the business, and technological impact of design choices
  • Establish and engage in design and user research to generate understanding or evaluate concepts
  • Establish iterative and data informed design approaches are executed
  • Cultivate relationships, manage and mentor teams, align them around a common vision and philosophy
  • Ability to be decisive, convincing and excite teams to move forward in a collaborative manner in a high paced environment
  • Foster and guide continuous evolutions of best practices in the usage of the design patterns, frameworks, tools and processes (i.e establish and expand on the adidas China’s digital product design language)
  • Support the team in a hands-on manner as they construct rapid interactive prototypes that illustrate features with micro-interactions, behaviors, and transitions as appropriate, that present a realistic feel of the intended experience
  • Foster innovation through design tools and methodologies among members of the team as well as with other cohorts
  • Build a culture inside the team that is supportive, inclusive, and enables designers at all levels to maximize their own growth and contribution
  • Contribute to an award winning, talent-attracting, and productive design culture by leading through design activities and through proven and consistent management practices
  • Keep abreast of competitor, X-industry design craft related trends

IV. Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years experience in design or craft based roles at leading internet companies, start-ups, corporate, agencies or consultancies
  • 5+ years of experience in leading scaled multidiscipline digital design or products teams
    • Can speak to experience of different organizational set up and design (remote teams, vendor, partnership model, in house etc.) in relationship to digital product teams
    • A background working directly with product managers, digital producers, engineers and developers on the faithful implementation of design intent
    • Diversity of experience working with different and multiple digital touchpoints (APP iOS/Android, WeChat Miniprograms, websites) with underlying different technology enablers and architecture
    • Strong ability to prioritize work and resources across engagements based on short- and long-term need and strategic priorities
  • Design craft and leadership:
    • A systems thinker, ability to make sense of complex information, user interaction flows and system architecture
    • Passionate about building, prototyping, and continually evolving digital products throughout the product life cycle
    • Craft beautiful user interfaces. Having a point of view on what good interaction design is about
    • Openness to broad feedback and the verbal ability to defend key design choices the team is vested in
    • Ability to provide hands-on contribution and direction as well as timely and helpful feedback to improve design processes that keeps work on schedule and to a high caliber of quality
    • Ability to balance bold leadership skills and style, with humble servant leadership with reliable collaboration
    • Has been part of X-discipline internal leadership teams as a representative of digital product
    • Engaged or worked with C-level engagements representing digital product with the ability to craft engaging presentations and visual communication skills
    • Has represented as a keynote speaker on digital product / craft at known events
  • Project experience relating to:
    • Digital product branding – creation of a brand from 0
    • Digital product strategy – road mapping of features and functions based on a consumer centered design approach
    • Service design – extending digital products or creating digital products into services
  • Fluent in fundamental hard design and craft skills:
    • Solid knowledge of tools, process for crafting digital products
    • Ability to convey concepts through wireframes, flows and mockups (UX, UI, IA, Communication design)
    • Fluent in latest visual design tools, such Sketch or Adobe XD
    • Fluent in prototyping
    • Working knowledge or can code for web and/or mobile app experience
  • Bachelors or masters education in craft based art and design disciplines
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with different international cultures
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and untangle complex situations into actionable activities
  • Fluent English and Chinese Mandarin both verbally and written
