Director Footwear Concept Generator

PURPOSE & OVERALL RELEVANCE FOR THE ORGANIZATION

This candidate will develop and land priority footwear platform innovation concepts that fuel the current Strategic Business Plan through 2025 and initiate new concepts that set the direction for the next SBP through 2030. The role is the central concept point which co-ordinates cross-functional future competency teams; the point counterpart to Asia Sourcing development centers and suppliers; and a key collaborator with downstream Production Operations and Business Unit teams to transition and commercialize concepts. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Collaborate closely with adidas Trend Working Group and other relevant adidas and external consumer insight resources to understand the WHO and WHY of current and future consumers.
•    Identify footwear innovation opportunities, leveraging personal expertise, network knowledge and resources to explore and monitor cutting edge research, science, manufacturing, and technology work streams.
•    Translate and resolve complex sciences and technologies into meaningful ideas that answer our consumer’s unmet needs, that when mature, can be shaped into 10X brand platforms with potential to build brand value.  
•    Demonstrate a high level of support for Senior Director’s footwear program direction to drive strategic innovation. 
•    Collaborate with fellow Concept Generator team mates to prioritize, align and focus the Future teams resources and deliverables according to Brand and FUTURE strategy. 
•    Collaborate with Future competency teams and partner Innovation Teams and to shape 10X Brand Platforms.
•    Nurture the culture of the Concept Generator team by being an example of positive attitude and living daily the Leadership Framework while holding fellow teammates accountable to the same core values.
•    Genuine ownership of your own responsibilities as well as the greater responsibilities of the Incubation Team. A high level of autonomy from being “managed” by Senior Director is expected.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

•    Strong understanding of functional/technical sport product and industry.
•    Strong knowledge of sports and sport science, holistic athletic capacities, and athlete's behavior.

•    Ability to travel 15 -20% of the time.  International travel required. 
•    Rich understanding of athletic consumer and the ability to seek out and gain genuine and relevant consumer insights. 
•    The ability to interpret consumer insights and translate them into emotionally connected 10X Brand platform opportunities. 
•    Fluent in English 

 

REQUISITE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/ MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
•    Masters in relevant technical discipline (engineering, sports science)
•    Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for degree.
•    Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in innovative Footwear or Apparel Product / Materials Engineering / Advanced Product Development.
•    Proficient computer skills, basic knowledge or willingness to learn relevant CAD packages such as Rhino or ProE.
