Director Environment - Carbon Management (Social & Environmental Affairs)

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization:

 

Many of the environmental challenges we seek to address are complex and beyond the scope of adidas; therefore, we need to work cross sectorial and collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders to think creatively, and pool our skills in order to address clean energy opportunities and improve outcomes for our supplier partners.

 

The environmental team currently drives work across 5 strategic priorities and works on a 5-year strategic cycle with targets published both internally and externally and a ten-year strategic plan linked to adidas UNFCCC -30% carbon reduction target. The role is fast paced, highly collaborative and operates within a dynamic work environment that demands agility and flexibility

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • As an established leader with deep experience in carbon/renewable energy, lead the development and execution of a clean energy strategy across adidas manufacturing supply chain and play a key role in accelerating adidas carbon program by advising suppliers on:
    • Renewable/clean energy adaptation and action planning
    • Carbon impact assessments & management
    • Carbon strategies
  • Strategically collaborate with internal leaders within sourcing and across other functions to secure alignment on strategic priorities.
  • Engage and form partnerships with external stakeholders to help remove barriers to improvement and accelerate renewable energy adoption within the adidas supply chain.
  • Leverage your extensive carbon/renewable energy expertise and industry experience to identify high value opportunities for adidas and its supply partners to drive improvements.

  • Sourcing Division, Global Operations and local teams
  • Key Regional LOs 

 

External

  • Local and regional industry associations on energy, renewables, carbon etc.
  • Engage in dialogue with third parties, including NGO, Government bodies and professional institutions to further investigate and test future concepts linked to environmental strategy 
  • External monitors

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Validated ability to lead collaboration across diverse teams within a large organization and inspire confidence to motivate groups collectively to meet common objectives
  • Strong business acumen and superior quantitative and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to develop business cases, including financial implications for environmental investments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey complex information in a simple, easily understood to diverse groups of stakeholders
  • Proven ability to interact with all levels, partnering, facilitating, and influencing and utilizing internal and external resources
  • Strong written and verbal English, any other regional (Asia Pacific) language is a plus
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint programs

 

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years professional experience in business and environmental sustainability including 8 years of management-level strategic planning and performance management experience
  • Proven people and team management skill (at least 5+ years)
  • Master degree in engineering, energy, sustainability or environmental discipline, or experience in sustainability, carbon/renewables/energy and/or management consulting preferred (Bachelor's degree can be considered for the right candidate)

30-40%
