Director Software Engineer - Backend




Our tech hub in Zaragoza is providing the technical solutions to the fast growth adidas digital business. We create the vision, design, build and operate everything related to digital B2C business, or internal solutions, for adidas. From online web and mobile stores, to digital marketing, to internal products used during product creation lifecycle.

In Brand and Creation Technologies, we provide the digital capabilities and tools to enable our teams to unleash their creativity. We are inventing and building the technical solutions for the adidas Product Creation processes. We support since product planning and design until the physical creation

What we are looking for: 

  1. Backend Engineering chapter lead / Technical lead for our Backend technologies stack (APIs & data streaming systems with Java, Node-Js and Kafka).  

  1. Strong software Engineer to lead a talented group of Backend Software Engineers in charge of building the adidas Creation systems. 

  1. A positive and dynamic leader, able to lead a team of talented backend engineers navigating change and uncertainty.  

  1. Experience creating highly scalable, reliable and performant microservices based backend systems. 

  1. Experience managing chapters of backend engineers and building high performing teams 

  1. Strong interpersonal and communication skills 

  1. Problem solving skills and hands on attitude. 

  1. Min. 10 years of IT experience 

  1. 5 years of experience in agile team management including remote teams. 

  1. Growth mindset and Motivation to never stop learning in the digital IT space. 

  1. College or university degree with focus on Software Engineering or equivalent. 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and mentor a chapter of Backend Software Engineers, as well as interact with our partners to ensure they follow our standards and best practices.  

  • Build and grow a strong community of backend engineers across different feature teams 

  • Ensuring that the team is using industry-accepted software engineering best practices in the Products. 

  • Overseeing all aspects of software development performance including establishing KPI’s, metrics, applying industry best practices, and developing new tools and processes.  

  • Engage with key stakeholders (Tech Enablement, vendors, business, markets…)​. 


Main technologies we use:

  • Agile methodologies: Scrum/Kanban 

  • Languages: Java, Node-Js 

  • Test Frameworks: Cucumber, Serenity BDD, Appium, Selenium, Rest-assured 

  • Container knowledge: Kubernetes, Docker 

  • CI/CD and monitoring tools: Jenkins, kibana, Instana, Grafana, … 

  • Platforms: Kafka, AWS
