Director of Finance - adidas

Purpose:

This position directs the financial performance and delivery of the P&L and is the key financial management partner for all channels of the adidas business. The role is to actively participate in end-to-end business planning and manage and direct the budgeting, financial management, analysis and reporting of all aspects of the adidas business, including sales, margin, OPEX, MWB, CAPEX, and inventories through cross-functional alignment on targeting, forecasting, budgeting, reporting, and analysis. There is an expectation that high level financial analysis will be done to identify and promote implementation of business strategies and efficiencies; and cost savings to maximize profitability and foster continuous improvement.  Creating an environment of accountability, financial integrity, and strong internal controls is a cornerstone of this role.

 

Key Responsibilities (Functional):  

  • Provide leadership and management to the adidas Finance team in support of the requirements of senior business management for the adidas business.
  • Prime responsibility to plan, manage and drive development, approval, and execution of the annual budget, annual target setting, annual SBP and monthly reforecast processes for all channels of the adidas business.
  • Create and monitor financial plans, targets, strategies and controls that focus on achieving desired financial and business objectives.
  • Develop and manage globally aligned business KPI’s with senior business management.
  • Direct and coordinate all monthly financial reporting, analysis and commentary required for the businesses, including full P&L, Balance Sheet and Business Forecast Update.
  • Drive the end to end process (E2E) in Canada as part of the One Plan for NAM
  • Actively participate in Margin Planning cycles to manage controls and achieve strategies.
  • Prepare regular strategic, analytical and insightful presentations to senior management for status and actions to achieve annual business targets, objectives and improvements.
  • In partnership with senior business management, prioritize, analyze, design and execute profit maximizing pricing strategies and cost efficiency initiatives.
  • Manages overall inventory control/management processes including data integrity, conducting physical inventory, valuation of inventory and shortage control through active participation in OTB, Aged Analysis, ATS, Unsold, Clearance, Samples, and Allocation.
  • Provide strategic proactive support for the planning, reporting and management of negotiation and execution of BPM’s for new/renovating stores, including ongoing impairment evaluations
  • Analyze and report to all relevant managers, the financial impact of business risks and opportunities, recommendations to address these, and post mortem analysis on outcomes.
  • Lead the compliance function (primarily via ICS annual self-assessment) and actively engage in external and internal audits to drive continuous improvement in the application of global controls.
  • Develop training and succession planning strategies for your finance team.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge in finance and accounting and a high level of understanding and experience with business math and wholesale/retail financial analysis.
  • Strength in “detail oriented” strategic thinking; synthesizing substantial amounts of complex information into effective actionable solutions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information in written or presentation form, and proactively interact with senior management, stakeholders, cross-functional business leaders, peers, staff, customers and suppliers.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities to accomplish objectives simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated application of advanced high-level skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage and motivate effectively in a team environment, promoting open participation, cross training, and coaching personal development for all staff.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

 

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Advanced degree or qualification in Finance, Economics or Accounting (e.g. MBA or CPA)
  • Solid accounting skills and experience is mandatory
  • 7 to 10 years of broad based related finance or business operations experience required
  • Proven ability to lead a finance team
  • Advanced Excel skills required
  • Familiarity with SAP and adidas Group financial systems is a desirable asset
  • Sporting Goods industry experience preferred
