The opportunity

Our Design Language team has been established in 2017. Since then due to our ever-growing efficiency and explorative mindset we grew, making impact across digital. We have a mature design practice and design system/language, however, we're still hungry for success and to elevate to elevate our design practice to the next level. Your team

You will work within the aDL (adidas Design Language) team, based in beautiful Amsterdam, Netherlands. We're a warm and passionate team of designers, producers and developers that strive to be the leaders in design systems. We love ideas, brainstorming, collaborating and sharing best tips on how we can best support our product teams to promote speed, quality and efficiency in their day-to-day. We work horizontally across our .com product teams & platforms and beyond.

Key responsibilities:

  • We like when things are neat and tidy. Your role is to apply this mindset to our design system, by making sure the atomic elements are always best in shape, organized and consistent

  • It’s not a secret we always have a roadmap to get the business running, but we always make sure there is time dedicated for personal exploration whether it’s about a new tool you would like to learn, or ways to elevate our design practice

  • Being a member of the design language team brings the responsibility to be the voice of design best practises within our industry and being educational with areas within the business which are further from everyday design like marketing, IT or customer service

  • Responsible in updating documentation and guidelines to help promote our design system / language across the business

  • Be passionate about our users, combined with consumer insights (ux research) to help best position your work

What tools will you use?

  • We've done the migration of our UI library from Sketch to Figma, but it's beneficial to know them both well

  • We have our own motion library to provide quick ways to build prototypes within Protopie for the digital product teams

  • Our third party creative agencies use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, so it's great to have a working knowledge or experience about them

  • Be comfortable by using the browsers inspect panel to identify some CSS deficiencies or to navigate between HTML tags without hands-holding

  • For administrational purposes we use the JIRA ecosystem, so it's good to know about setting up tickets there, or what Confluence is on the first place

  • A nice to have, someone with knowledge of video production software (Premier / AfterEffects)

What do you need to know in order to be succesful?

  • You have a solid knowledge and interest about the fundamentals of design: composition, typography, colours, image-making and grids

  • Good understanding of building design systems and apply the atomic elements to support the larger design goals

  • Able to collaborate smoothly with developers and non-design members of the organisation

  • It helps if you have an entrepreneurial mindset or you had your own products before, so you understand the business of design, not just the design of the business

  • You're able to communicate fluently in English and able to present your ideas
