Customs Analyst (m/f/d)

Purpose

 

The Customs Analyst role will support Customs Europe North import, and/or export operations and compliance related activities. This position will work cross-functionally with the supply chain teams, as well as outside counsel, suppliers, software providers, logistics providers, and customs brokers to ensure compliance with all EU Customs laws and regulations. Support in the implementation of departmental and company-wide projects.

 

Key Accountabilities 

  • Actions daily import/export compliance and clearance tasks with Customs Authorities, Customs brokers, software provider, Import Teams, and 3rd party logistics providers.
  • Implements compliance measures to minimize Customs broker entry errors.
  • Coordination with inbound teams regarding consignment prioritisation and handling scheduling
  • Collects and analyses data for daily, monthly, and quarterly reporting and KPI’s and implements corrective measures if necessary.
  • Creates and maintains import, and/or export compliance reporting dashboards.
  • Analyzes customs duty spend and implement opportunities to reduce costs.
  • Creates, updates and/or maintains procedures and SOPs for import, bonded warehouse management and export processes and activities as needed.
  • Facilitates free trade program to mitigate duty impact (e.g., Free Trade Agreements).
  • Works with DC network to identify, reconcile, and resolve any inventory issues in a prompt and timely manner.
  • Performs project related tasks to enable delivery of team assignments and objectives.
  • Seeks automation opportunities and leverages technologies to drive compliance with global trade regulations.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders including government agencies, as necessary.
  • Verifies and maintains recordkeeping procedures for documentation pertaining to Customs entries according to customs and company policies.
  • Participates in global and regional Customs initiatives and projects. 
  • Supports activities relating the company’s participation in government programs such as Authorized Economic Operator (AEO).

  • Internally: Inbound Planning Teams, Group Tax, Finance, Global Customs, Logistics
  • Externally: European Customs Teams, Customs Brokers, Carriers / 4PL / 3PL, Area Customs Offices, Main Customs Office Nürnberg

 

Knowledge, Capabilities and Experience

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to ensure accuracy and compliance in customs documentation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, taking ownership of customs-related topics
  • Highly detail oriented/analytical and adaptive to change.
  • Good knowledge of customs and foreign trade law
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet daily deadlines.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • A strong internal and external customer service attitude
  • Strong Excel and Access skills
  • Good user skills in ATLAS and MS Office
  • Strong understanding of logistics processes
  • Organisational and team skills
  • Strong communication skills

 

Qualifications  

  • Training as a wholesale/foreign trade merchant or forwarding agent or similar 
  • Further training/qualification in the areas of customs and/or imports
  • Minimum of 3+ years work experience in Customs Compliance and/or Finance or Auditing, ideally in an international company
