Innovation Engineer

PurposePosition creates and develops processes to support growth and profitability. Position researches new equipment and technology form trial through to commercialization, managing scale-up process from pilot to full-scale manufacturing. Position develops, modifies and improves the manufacturing and distribution processes by working directly with machine manufacturers and suppliers to develop innovative concepts. Position keeps abreast of new technologies and works with cross functional and cross site team members to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions. This position will be expected to identify opportunities for improvement and gained efficiency using Lean, Six Sigma, and Theory of Constraints to drive continuous improvement throughout the facility.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate opportunities to develop and improve production processes, machine utilization and material usage.
  • Recommend methods for improving worker efficiency through the reduction of waste in both materials and labor.
  • Conduct pilot research that supports process innovation and improvement and scaling that research to commercial processes in manufacturing and distribution.
  • Collaborate with R&D and equipment suppliers to develop innovative processes critical to the business.
  • Support the creation of individual department action plans to improve efficiency levels.
  • Support process improvement in all areas of business.
  • Provide technical support in solving product quality problems.
  • Utilize project management skills to effectively drive development and innovation projects.
  • Complete cost analyses for development and innovation projects to ensure opportunities for cost savings.
  • Writing product evaluation protocols, performing product testing and authoring engineering reports with recommendations.
  • Explore industry best practices through visiting trade fairs, keeping abreast of new manufacturing and distribution materials and/or processes.
  • Designing, developing, implementing and documenting new manufacturing and distribution processes.
  • Be a driver of change, seeking new ways to improve the business, its efficiency and company profitability.
  • Manage, set deadlines, formalize, organize, report and retain key project information.

  • Ability to multi-task, coordinating the work on several projects and varying levels of personnel.
  • Possess exceptional analytical skill to drive change and produce tangible results.

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Degree in Industrial Engineering, closely related field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a Distribution/Manufacturing Environment.
  • Lean and Six Sigma certification
  • Proven experience in effectively managing projects.
  • Ability and flexibility to travel. (20-30%)
  • Fluent in English, verbal and written communication.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software programs including Excel, Power Point and Access.
