Manager, Social & Environmental Affairs Monitoring Assurance

PURPOSE & OVERALL RELEVANCE FOR THE ORGANIZATION
Execute adidas’ social assurance program focusing in the ‘upstream’ supply chain, i.e., T1Subcon, T2, T3 and beyond in sourcing countries in Asia and in concert with all relevant business entities, be these direct or indirect relationships, including licensees and agents. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up annual social compliance audit schedule of T2(+1) suppliers in adidas sourcing locations in Southeast Asia. Together with the authorized external auditor company, to finalize audit schedule for T1-Subcon factories in sourcing countries in Asia.
  • Overseeing 3rd party social audit program for T2 suppliers (and beyond), including supplier producing for Parley. When needed, conduct social compliance audit at the suppliers in the countries under her/his coverage. 
  • Review and track the status of remediation plan from social audit. Assist supplier’s remediation by advising on options, negotiating timeframes, sharing experiences and best practices and helping management locate the necessary expertise, materials, etc.
  • Carry out the supplier performance evaluation and report the results to relevant Sourcing staffs in the designated countries. Engage the adidas Sourcing staff and factory management in the designated country or countries in order to integrate SEA requirements into the business practices of adidas.
  • Identify the areas of risk to adidas in respect of working conditions and standards. Provide to the Line Manager recommendations in respect of those risks, based on legal obligations and SEA requirements. Support the Line Manager in their execution of SEA policies, projects and work programmes.
  • Develop and provide regular SEA training to adidas Sourcing staff and factories within designated country or countries. 
  • Provide regular updates to the Line Manager, the relevant Country Manager(s) and Sourcing staff, on the status of suppliers and SEA Team activities. 
  • Keep updated on all labour legislation, news, issues and initiatives within the designated country or countries and report any updates promptly and clearly. Review any updates with SEA team members.
  • Establish contacts and actively engage in dialogue with local NGOs, Government bodies and professional institutions, to further the goals and transparency of the SEA programme.

  • Carry out special projects, as designated by the Line Manager, which utilise areas of technical expertise.

REQUISITE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor Degree in Human Resource Management, Law, OHS or related Fields.  
  • At least 6 years of progressive regional experience in manufacturing industry with focus on compliance, with at least three years in the area of occupational health & safety.
  • Written Communication - is able to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of styles; can get messages across that have the desired effect.
  • Fluent written and spoken English. Knowledge of local language and dialects in country of operation.   
  • Presentation Skills - Effectiveness in a variety of formal presentations, one-on-one, small and large groups, with peers, direct reports and senior management; is effective both inside and outside the organisation such as NGO and local governments, on hard data and controversial topics; commands attention and can manage group process during the presentation.
  • Government Dialogue, able to represent the company in dialogue with government of occupational health & safety, environmental pollution, labour rights, human rights and where appropriate. 
  • Strong proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
  • Strong team player with proven ability toto trouble shoot issues, identify risks, manage crises, recommend, and support senior management with emergency situations.

 

FURTHER REQUIREMENTS 

  • The job requires hands on experience in the field and provides advice to business partners.  
  • Occasional travel to both local and international is essential and is expected to work in industrial environment.
