Manager Materials Concept Development Apparel (m/w/d)

Purpose:

This role contributes to adidas’ mission to be the best sports company in the world by managing and driving material research, development and innovation for the respective materials category. Ensure product integrity and product excellence by working closely with product development, design, marketing and all related support services to identify and commercializes materials that meet or exceed adidas quality standards and business needs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be the key consultant for material related questions and drive materials concept innovation in the respective focus area.
  • Ensure availability of materials portfolio according to calendar timelines, target prices, sourcing policy and quality standards and drive materials efficiencies horizontally.
  • Pro-actively initiate and lead innovation projects in co-operation with material and machinery suppliers. Ensure their successful technical implementation, documentation and communication across the business.
  • Lead all technical discussions related to the repestive material focus area, steer the material innovation and development process and support materials consolidation to improve material efficiency.
  • Manage and drive material research, development and innovation for respective materials category. Ensure product integrity and product excellence by working closely with product development, design, marketing and all related support services, to identify and commercialise materials that meet or exceed adidas quality standards and business needs.
  • Escalate potential project risks and provide continuous improvement suggestions to maintain the highest knowledge of relevant concepts and ensure that any new technology requirements are incorporated into the material developmet process and testing cooperation.
  • Attend trade shows, conferences and factory visitations to stay up to date with market changes and innovations in respective focus area.

  • Ability to manage relationship with key stake holders internally and externally
  • Ability to anticipate challenges and provide solutions
  • Advanced communication skills, especially when interacting with different levels of business
  • Strong presentation skills to create, plan and effectively deliver presentations in formal and informal settings to a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to anticipate problems, offer solutions and address issues with materials in order to meet Design team’s aesthetic goals and financial targets
  • Ability to cope with change
  • Ability to work independently or with limited guidance
  • Fluent English (verbal & written)
  • Strong IT skills and flexibility to work with new systems

 
Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Four-year college or university degree in material/textile science/design
  2. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience working with materials or garment development, textile industry, garment trim industry
