Materials Designer



Through partnership with adidas and YEEZY, the purpose is to bring Ye’s creative vision to life. In collaboration with the entire Product Creation Team, the goal is to innovate and develop against future Concept design ideas for the next frontier. These advanced design ideas and solutions will shape the future look and feel of YEEZY footwear. 




•    Creatively explore new ways to bring Ye’s material vision to life through product 
•    Create a physical and digital material toolbox that can be shared with the Design team
•    Design innovative materials with industry leading partners through the Material Workstream 
•    Create 3D swatches that can be utilized for footwear making/ prototyping
•    Proactively deep-dive research material to help develop new toolboxes for future seasons
•    Material swatch direct references and extract fiber details off the evolving design direction
•    Create technical Material Maps and supporting documents for Concept design projects
•    Deliver/present Material Map handovers to the cross-functional team
•    Work closely with Product Creation Team and suppliers to kick-off innovative material work and track samples for review
•    Collaborate closely with the Concept Color and Footwear Design team
•    Collaborate closely with the Collection Material Design team
•    Build a strong working relationship with the Material Development team
•    Build a collaborative relationship with adidas suppliers
•    Self-Manage own creative process and execute towards given targets and defined design languages and strategies. 
•    Engage with Creative Teams across the adidas/YEEZY organization to facilitate in innovative and complex technologies, methods, and tools to support projects.
•    Travel to work with the sample room team/ factories (as needed)
•    Support the Design team when setting up for Concept design Ye review sessions

•    Proficient understanding of the product creation process, footwear design knowledge (plus)
•    Proficient knowledge of footwear color, materials, construction, and production
•    Ability to conceptually explore materials across new design concepts
•    Strong Material Map tech pack efficiency
•    Holistic understanding of knits, wovens, non-wovens, foams, and component packages
•    Strong knowledge and use of Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator)
•    Material exploration through 3D programs, 3D swatches, physical prototypes (not required, but beneficial) 
•    Proficient presentation and communication skills
•    High level of creativity
•    High level of initiative & maturity
•    High level of organization skills
•    Ability to work with teammates on the ground and in remote locations
•    Must have a Team first mindset
•    Fluent in English (spoken and written)



•    Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a college or university in a relevant Design subject or equivalent combination of education and experience
•    3 years of practical experience in design environment (Footwear/ Apparel/ Accessories/Materials - or industrial design, fashion design or similar design related areas)
