Project Manager Product Standards & Compliance - Outdoor (m/f/d)

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organisation:


This is an in-house strategic position for an organized, passionate and goal-oriented individual who understands how critical product performance is for the Outdoor category and is driven by the sense of excellence for the brand and its products. Key responsibilities include:


  • Develop and maintain strategic product performance vision and standard framework vision together with the Business Unit (BU) and Standards & Compliance (S&C) team.
  • Coordinate the evaluation of the gap between the as-is and the to-be across all Outdoor products and divisions. Define and coordinate benchmarks to assess brand’s competitiveness against direct competitors.
  • Coordinate and define path for creation and enhancement of existing standards for the next 5 years.
  • Develop and maintain sustainable consumer driven performance feedback loop to continuously re-evaluate standards framework and keep brand at a high competitive level.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop and maintain strategic product performance vision and standards framework for the outdoor category:
    • Analyze and research competitors’ key performance consumer benefits together with BU.
    • Establish key performance dimensions for the outdoor products, and define Good/Better/Best vision and approach under the guidance of the Outdoor BU.
    • Create mapping against current existing range segmentation.
  • Understand, define and plan to address the gap in standards:
    • Research and define potential benchmark projects together with BU and Laboratory Excellence/Product Excellence/Concept Excellence teams to better quantify the performance gaps with competitors.
    • Connect learnings to the overall vision and gap approach.
    • Define and breakdown work and help define priorities. Develop optional approaches and coordinate reviews and Senior Management Team feedback and decisions across creation process and manufacturing.
    • Define feedback and market product performance indicators to best leverage consumer feedback, reviews, etc.
  • Develop complete standard framework for the outdoor division:
    • Coordinate standard creation across all 3 divisions: Footwear, Apparel and A&G and across Material/Component/Finished product testing, for physical, perception and compliance testing and requirements.
    • Manage relationships with other Testing groups to ensure prioritization levels of workload.
    • Coordinate with sourcing on manufacturing guidelines development.
    • Develop necessary system configurations (MP, aTP, …) to ensure proper execution of standards.
    • Contribute to product creation guidelines when relating to new outdoor specific technologies.
  • Establish long term feedback loops and mechanics to ensure top notch performance standards infrastructure:
    • Define mechanics, timelines for review etc.
    • Work with Feedback Loop team and BU resources to develop outdoor specific mechanics for consumer review collection and analysis.
    • Create and maintain mechanics for quick standards modifications and updates based on the needs and variations of the market.
  • Compliance evaluation. Work with the Product Compliance teams to evaluate the landscape of regulations, evaluate the needs and define approach and processes to guaranty full product performance of the outdoor range.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


Soft skills:

  • Strong project management skills – ability to summarize action plan, draw roadmap, provide high level progress updates and elevate concerns
  • Great technical background and understanding of testing field.
  • Strategic ability to define a vision.
  • Stakeholders onboarding and lobbying and alignment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and great ability to influence and collaborate
  • Ability to work independently


Hard skills:

  • Extensive PowerPoint knowledge and skills
  • Project management, lean six-sigma certification
  • Experience with project planning and process mapping tools (e.g. MS Project, Visio)
  • Experience with Smartsheet solutions
  • Basic knowledge of enterprise solutions (e.g. SAP, development systems)


Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:


  • Outdoor enthusiast
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in multinational company environment (e.g. management consulting, or regional exposure)
  • Within which ~2 years of relevant project management or industry experiences
  • University degree required
