Project Manager Reverse Logistics - Sustainability (m/f/d)



This is a position for an organized, pro-active & impact-oriented talent who wants to contribute to adidas’ Sustainability strategy. Your role will be to manage and deliver the Reverse Logistics scope of adidas’ Made To Be Remade (MTBR) sustainability initiative within the boundaries of time, cost & quality. All while bearing in mind customers’ expectations & requirements for a completely new Business Model.


MTBR products consist out of 100% recyclable materials, and are developed with the intent to be taken back (at end-of-life), recycled and used to create the next generation of products. As Project Manager Reverse Logistics, you will support the operationalization of this sustainability initiative by setting up the backend fulfillment and takeback operations across our markets globally.


Key Accountabilities 

  • Reverse Logistics expertise
  • Develop deep understanding of the Business requirements to enable the complex stream of physical product flows, financial flows and data flows related to Reverse Logistics
  • Work closely with Customs to understand the impact of waste management regulations on our transportation requirements and network
  • Ensure taken-back items are fed into our global network of recycling partners (in close collaboration with other adidas expert teams such as Sourcing)
  • Nurture cross-regional community of Reverse Logistics experts
  • Provide executional support to markets where we are implementing this Reverse Logistics mechanism
  • Facilitate communication and knowledge sharing across business units & regions
  • Develop deep understanding of customer needs and requirements for sustainable products
  • Assess trends and screen market for new processes & technologies (related to Reverse Logistics) that can be adopted by adidas for the benefits of our customers
  • Support the preparation of demand and business cases together with finance partner
  • Support preparation of updates for senior management

Project management

  • Lead and manage the delivery of assigned scope of the project, end-to-end, ideally through effectively applying the PMI methodology
  • Ensure full understanding of project scope to be able to design detailed project plans
  • Manage the execution and completion of the defined project plan by effectively coordinating people and resources
  • Monitor and highlight any project variables (cost, effort, scope, etc.) against the project plan and make suggestions to implement corrective or preventative actions
  • If required, support any changes for the respective project and ensure changes are implemented smoothly and successfully to achieve lasting benefits
  • Finalize all activities across the projects/programs to formally close and hand over the project, ensuring project documents are approved, completed, maintained and stored appropriately
  • Ensure compliance with GIT standards, e.g. PMO, IT controlling standards
  • Manage and collaborate within a strongly cross-functional & international project context
  • Use appropriate and effective communication methods to Senior Management and project stakeholders throughout the project life cycle, in order to successfully deliver and embed the project within the organization.

Knowledge, Capabilities and Experience

  • Knowledge of Reverse Logistics processes and warehouse/returns operations & systems
  • Pro-active (engaging & impact-oriented) & ability to think end-to-end with a global mindset
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills; ability to analyse and synthesize complex data sets
  • Capability to think strategically, simplify complex matters and develop innovative solutions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with different international cultures
  • Ability to influence without formal reporting line
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to all levels of the organization
  • Strong facilitation & people management skills (e.g., manage multiple work stream teams)
  • Ability to travel, domestic or international, as required
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written),
  • Strong MS-Office skills (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)


  1. Four-year college or university degree with focus on Supply Chain Management
  2. Minimum 2+ year experience in managing projects
  3. Ideally PMI/Project Management certified
