Retail Operations Manager, Process Improvement


This individual serves as the primary leader in managing the design, implementation, and roll out of business projects, best practices, and all things process improvement for the retail store base. This role employs process improvement methodology to evaluate, measure and improve business practices for retail stores. The position identifies, creates, solves complex business process issues, and ultimately helps the company achieve their financial goals through productivity and quality enhancements. This role will closely partner with store operations teams to understand opportunities and to ensure a seamless integration of process between store functions



Key Accountabilities

  • Identify opportunities for improvements through the analysis of data, direct observation, and collaboration with subject matter experts
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement modifications to in-store processes that enable retail stores to achieve financial goals
  • Drive execution of programs and platforms focused on repeatable store processes that drive significant workload like receiving shipments, product processing, price markdowns, sales floor replenishment product transitions, and cashiering
  • Design and layout out retail store BOH (Back of House) to promote efficient staging, processing, storage, and flow
  • Establish key benchmarks, standards and performance measures to assess operational effectiveness and establish processes to analyze results and develop plans for improving business practices to maximize profitability
  • Leverages experience and best-in-class retail knowledge to influence implementation, and continuous improvement with all processes related to retail store operations
  • Identify, recommend, and lead the development of store initiatives and strategies to improve store productivity and customer service
  • Facilitate continuous improvement and development of store operations and processes through simplification and optimization. Routinely analyze and update processes, manage communication and implementation of any changes
  • Project management of multiple complex projects that have cross-functional dependencies
  • Support key Retail Operations functions and initiatives including but not limited to, workload planning & optimization, vendor management, sourcing and procurement

  • Ability to collect information and data, define problems, evaluate processes, and establish logical, efficient processes to streamline business processes
  • Ability to evaluate results and measure performance against goals
  • Project management of complex projects with limited resources and cross-functional dependencies

  • Capable of working independently under minimal guidance on several projects simultaneously

  • Sound business acumen, including familiarity with financial reporting and measurements

  • Able to demonstrate managerial courage and interface with all levels of leadership
  • Proficient in MS Office applications including Excel, Access, Project, and Visio



  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with an emphasis in Business Process Improvement, Industrial Engineering or Business or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years professional experience with an emphasis on retail store operations or Industrial Engineering
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred
  • In-store retail experience is strongly preferred
