Senior Brand Protection Manager

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organisation:

 

Drive the brand protection program in the UK and Ireland ('Territory') for all adidas brands to prevent and deter the offer of counterfeit and imitation products.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure and promote policing of the market (including Internet) for counterfeit products and other infringements of adidas brands intellectual property rights (for example stripes infringements).
  • Drive legal action against companies or individuals who sell counterfeit products and imitation products. Identify and report possibilities for civil proceedings against counterfeiters.
  • Partner with the business and Senior Management in relation to all brand protection and anti-counterfeiting aspects in the Territory.
  • Provide solutions and facilitate decisions in relation to brand protection matters in the Territory.
  • Ensure adidas brands registered intellectual property rights are registered with customs in the Territory and that AFAs are filed in a timely manner.
  • Take a pro-active role with the Senior Management team in the Territory to educate and encourage awareness of, and manage expectations in relation to, intellectual property matters.
  • Create and build relations with customs, police, trading standards and other official bodies with a view to encouraging them to identify, seize and destroy counterfeits and prosecute counterfeiters.
  • Carry out identification of suspected counterfeit products (including those detained by customs) and provide accurate statements/affidavits to enable successful prosecution of counterfeiters.
  • Drive training and coaching programs for customs, police, other enforcement officials, agents and other partners in the Territory to ensure that they are able to identify counterfeit products.
  • Cooperate with local law enforcement such as police and customs including attendance at raids and court hearings (for example as expert witness) and general support with prosecution process.
  • Ensure and promote supervision of destruction of counterfeit products and products which infringe adidas brands intellectual property rights.
  • Ensure and promote relations with local anti-counterfeiting/IP associations, other brand owners, event organisers, clubs and other relevant bodies to support and develop anti-counterfeiting network in the Territory and co-ordinate actions (where possible).
  • Compilation of training materials for externals/internals regarding identifying counterfeit products.
  • Devise plan of action for online brand protection program in Territory (in accordance with Global Trademarks team strategy) including creating and building relations with online monitoring service provider, key platforms, registrars and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Global Trademarks team regarding brand protection activities, including for example around events; provide external legal advisors with necessary support in connection with intellectual property legal proceedings (either initiated by or against adidas), including provision of information and collation of evidence.
  • Budget brand protection programs in the Territory and provide help and support with budgeting and forecasting process. Keep IP database maintained and updated with all the enforcement cases.
  • Drive ethical and compliant culture with respect to all aspects of the Brand Protection program in the Territory including management of external agents and investigators.

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • min. 8 years working experience in anti-counterfeiting, investigation, enforcement or other relevant experience
  • Relevant university degree; advanced degree or professional certification desirable
  • Business fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
