Senior Director Sustainability Strategy (m/f/d)

PURPOSE & OVERALL RELEVANCE FOR THE ORGANISATION

 

Lead all the creation, development, and targets of the strategy for all consumer facing sustainability topics across the adidas brand and to develop the plan which translates strategy into activation. (includes SBP, Annual Strategy, and Strategy Initiatives in the Brand)

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Responsible for creating and leading brand Sustainability topics horizontally across adidas.  Leadership of brand sustainability topics includes, but is not limited to, the following:
    • Creating adidas’ brand sustainability strategies together with relevant stakeholders.
    • Own the plan for how sustainability becomes consumer facing for adidas including the overarching implementation into the business through innovation, product, narrative, comms and messaging, tools, digital, social media, event activations, Speaking engagements and ad campaigns
       
  • Write briefs to BU’s, Futures, Creative Direction, Brand Design, Brand Communications, key city teams, retail marketing, comms,  etc to create the plans, products, tools and activations that will bring the strategy to life in a way that is consumer relevant, compelling and simple. When necessary, work directly with agencies and third parties through briefing process.
  • Champion integration of sustainability in all relevant key brand initiatives with senior management and at board level
  • Ensure brand sustainability strategy is adopted and executed within all Functions and BU’s.
  • Initiate & lead efforts cross-functionally across Marketing & Sales teams (including brand marketing, CtC, SPOMA, retail concepts, retail opps, key account mgmt., etc.), to: discover best practice and ensure a growing execution of consumer activations & events linked to environmental and social topics, embed sustainability into all our brand image activities such as run bases/creator farms, increase the use of the topic within key accounts/sales relationships, and ramp up new business model topics such as the comprehensive development of a closed loop strategy.   
  • External spokesperson and representative for brand sustainability strategy, for brands’ sustainable product initiatives, & for related consumer concepts.
  • Bring in necessary external parties and new partnerships to generate new innovations and/or collaborations to engender any of the above.
  • Orceshtrate sutainability funcions across the company to ensure synergy of consumer facing strategy in Brand with sustainability strategy in operations and Purpose.

  • Relevant external partners and organizations (FFG, Parley, BASF)

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Independent and strong marketing executive with proven track record leading global communications programs.
  • Ability to create strategy, rollout action plan, lead change management and oversee multiple projects to fulfil a joint goal.
  • Ability to influence and create buy-in at highest levels of the organization, and across functional areas.
  • Proven track record of both successful direct + indirect management experience, demonstrating the ability to effectively inspire, coach and lead
  • Proven performance in a business environment with responsibility for Driving Net sales growth and margin.
  • Proven track record in bringing cross- functional concepts to the business for execution.
  • Proven track record as Brand Ambassador and as high profile public speaker and have positive media exposure and media training.
  • Strong communication skills  and media training.
  • Strategic minded with strong executional abilities

REQUISITE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Master’s Degree (MBA preferred) or equivalent relevant experience
  • Background in environmental disciplines highly beneficial
  • Required focus knowledge areas:  Marketing, Business management, Environmental Studies, Complex Systems Management, Strategic Planning
  • Min. 12 years’ experience working in Business field ideally in connection with sustainability and/or with sustainable products; minimum 4 in sporting goods industry
  • Min. 5 years leadership of diverse & global teams in a matrix organization
  • Proven track record of success in Marketing in an international business environment, plus in-depth experience working with sustainability topics.
