Senior Manager, Go-To-Market Outdoor Japan

Purpose & overall Relevance to the organization:

  • Identify and support the strategic development, implementation and execution of new business models to drive Outdoor category growth in Japan, in accordance with the APAC Outdoor SBP and Japan brand SBP
  • Drive SBP implementation by managing defined parts of the cross-functional Outdoor SBP project team
  • Support the mid-/long-term planning and roll-out of related initiatives.


Key responsibilities:

Market and business intelligence

  • Identify key markets and competitor trends and evaluate business opportunities. Ensure the implications are considered in planning and decision-making
  • Collate and maintain up to date the provision of relevant Business Intelligence (i.e. consumer data) and benchmarking - both internal and external – to support decision making and performance enhancement
  • Create and distribute regular reports to Outdoor APAC team and counterparts in Japan


Category Strategic Business Planning

  • Facilitate the development Outdoor SBP 2021 – 2025 for Japan with the focus on building the Terrex brand and accelerating commercial success in the country.
  • Ensure the category SBP is in alignment with the country-cluster brand SBP as well as the vertical Outdoor category SBP for APAC
  • Translate the new strategy into clear roadmap(s) with focus on the business model/planning (in collaboration with Japan counterparts and APAC BU)
  • Support short-to-mid-term category planning with cross-functional teams


Strategy and initiative implementation

  • Drive and support the SBP implementation within Japan in collaboration with assigned project functions, both APAC and Japan counterparts, and/or external partners as required
  • Act as the key interface towards business partners such as APAC Outdoor BU, Japan Channel Sales, Brand Marketing, Digital and Consumer Experience
  • Engage on key initiatives and identified business opportunities to deliver quick wins

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Solution- and success-oriented

  • Strong interpersonal skills (e.g. stakeholder management, influencing, presentation)
  • Proven methodological and analytical skills (e.g. business planning, financial analyses, strategic development, project management)
  • Expert understanding of outdoor/sporting goods/retail industry, consumers, accounts, economic environment and commercial needs in Japan
  • Advanced level English and Japanese language skill


Prerequisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

  • University degree in business, ideally with a focus on marketing, sales or similar training or equivalent professional experience
  • Sales/Marketing/consulting experience in international sporting goods/outdoor/retail industry
  • Experience in strategic planning and management of complex mid to large size projects preferred
  • 4-6 years business development/project/sales/marketing experience, ideally from the sporting goods/outdoor industry
  • Passion for sports
