Senior Manager, Sports Marketing, MLS + Pro Leagues

PURPOSE

Responsible for the development and implementation of MLS Club and professional league partner strategies in North America. Lead team who manages day-to-day relationships with MLS Clubs: from contract re-negotiation (in-market) to product creation to activation to servicing. Work across functions and categories to develop, manage and execute attack plans designed to grow soccer in North America through professional soccer partners in North America.  


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide strong leadership and direction to team members responsible for adidas’ direct relationships with MLS Clubs and identified global partners in North America
  • Develop, manage, and drive MLS Club strategy, which serves as the foundation for all activation plans across the team
  • Develop, manage, and drive product endorsement plans within MLS around key moments to drive brand heat and grow soccer culture in North America; responsible for all recaps and reporting there of
  • Act as the key interface between MLS, MLS Clubs and adidas internal networks, with a focus on product creation, product marketing, brandcomms, and retail marketing.
  • Develop, manage, and drive plans around key retail, product + calendar moments through MLS clubs to drive brand heat and growing soccer culture in North America; responsible for all recaps and reporting there of
  • Exercise superior communication with leadership, team, and partners to ensure all commitments are fulfilled, superior service has been provided and strong relationships are formed
  • Responsible for managing, servicing, leveraging, and strengthening relationships with MLS clubs on daily basis
  • Manage MWB associated with MLS Club product and activation, and support director on finance process for MLS org
  • Create clear pathway to achieve objectives set out for the team, lead by example, coach, develop, build team culture, and maximize the performance of each team member
  • Strengthen and maintain adidas reputation; build long-term partnerships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Ensure decisions and actions support marketing strategy and maximize impact, growing soccer in North America
  • Other duties as assigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong grasp on storytelling, brand identity, activations, + extensive knowledge of the North American soccer landscape. 
  • Experience in holding partners accountable, steering opinions, and navigating complex relationships 
  • A holistic thinker with ability to establish and drive end-to-end strategies and initiatives that achieve objectives
  • Proven ability to think strategically, identify challenges, synthesize data and develop innovative solutions 
  • Strong business acumen in channel distribution, net sales, margin, profit and inventory 
  • Ability to manage across teams and priorities to accomplish multiple tasks with conflicting deadlines
  • A marketer and people leader, who can present effectively to groups at all levels 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with people on all levels of an organization 
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making skills in fast paced, changing environment
  • Proven collaborator who can manage priorities to accomplish multiple tasks with conflicting deadlines
  • Ability to influence decisions and outcomes internally and externally, while maintaining productive relationships 
  • Proven leadership and coaching skills; proven ability to create a highly engaged team environment and culture
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook)
  • Ability to travel year-round, extensively during peak periods 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four-year college or university degree, emphasis in marketing or business preferred.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years related experience 
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for a degree
