Senior Manager Retained Accounting


In the dynamic DTC business environment this position is responsible for creating and maintaining sustainable, accurate and efficient financial DTC processes for all our sales entities to ensure the integrity of our NAM financial records. More specifically this covers our retained eCom & retail accounting functions as well as our retained Inventory and sales audit functions. This includes, but is not limited to, project DTC accounting lead, DTC accounting process creation and review, internal and external audit liaison for DTC topics, oversight of financial records, financial statement preparation and liaison between local Finance and GBS.


Key Responsibilities:


People Management

  • Directly oversee and manage the retained DTC accounting teams as well as the inventory and sales audit functions within Corporate Finance for NAM, including training, recruiting, and planning of team resources.
  • Define performance targets and monitor employee performance. Ensure proper, meaningful, and timely performance reviews in compliance with company timelines
  • Ensure team members meet and/or exceed global & local business partner customer service expectations for financial accounting services.
  • Support and provide directional guidance to peer accounting teams across NAM as well as towards our GBS organization
  • Engage in people management topics across NAM Corporate Finance as part of the NAM Corporate Finance leadership team.


Partnership with Global and Local Finance & Business Teams

  • Collaborate with local Finance, GBS and peer accounting teams across NAM to ensure overall NAM results are accurately reflected within the various locally & globally defined timelines.
  • Lead/ support IT/Business Development related projects from a DTC perspective.
  • Partner with the local Market, Global Business and Finance Teams to create and implement global DTC accounting standards in NAM.
  • Facilitate and strengthen business relationships between finance and other business areas.
  • Rebuild and ongoing development of the team to deliver best in class accounting services, focusing on customer service, quality & accuracy of reporting, compliance, consistent reliability, defining KPI’s and business partnering.
  • Collaborate with the business to ensure our various marketplace, partnership, Omni channel, etc. initiatives are implemented in a compliant way including ensuring a proper back end process is in place.



Accounting and Reporting

  • Manage, control & implement all relevant accounting systems used for or to support DTC accounting and financial reporting processes.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing of the books for DTC including preparation of external audit requests.
  • Manage and drive the consolidation of DTC accounting and Inventory & Sales audit functions for NAM
  • Review general ledger account reconciliations and analysis for all DTC accounts and ensure the Company’s financial records are accurate.
  • Create and drive improvements to existing DTC processes to reduce the monthly closing cycle and minimize manual tasks to enable compliance with our overall global deadlines.
  • Determine and lead accounting projects designed to e.g. enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Drive application/ provide guidance on DTC policies to ensure compliance with IFRS for both existing and future implemented DTC initiatives.
  • Further support/ drive the upskilling of the NAM DTC GBS teams
  • Drive Standardization & Harmonization across NAM Accounting functions in accordance with local and global streamline efforts
  • Perform other NAM DTC related tasks and assignments as required


Project Management / Other

  • Take a leadership role in implementing best practices to improve and bolster service levels within DTC Accounting and Inventory & Sales audit.
  • Drive overall effectiveness by thinking outside the box, driving continuously evolving processes & procedures, adapting to the new and role model change management across NAM
  • Support local and global teams on financial system integration projects and leading the accounting team’s involvement in such projects.


Key Relationships: 

  • NAM Finance, global Finance, GBS, local & global Tax and IT teams, NAM business, External auditors & consultants, etc.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent knowledge in Accounting (US GAAP & IFRS preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge on US sales taxes
  • Strong analytical & communication skills.    
  • Strong SAP, GRAPE and MS Office skills
  • Must be able to develop teams, balance multiple priorities and be detail oriented

  • Ability to think strategically, synthesize complex data and develop creative and innovative solutions



Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA or MBA preferred
  • 8-10 years’ experience in Accounting with exposure to IAS and IFRS
  • Industry and DTC channel specific experience preferred
  • SAP working knowledge preferred
