Legal Counsel (Temp)

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization:

 

This incumbent, reporting directly to the Legal & Compliance Director - Retail, will act as an assistant legal advisor to provide paralegal, technical and administrative assistance to the Legal & Compliance Director - Retail in relation to any and all kinds of legal matters and issues which may occur in RetailCo Projects (the “Project”). He or she will, perform a variety of paralegal, technical and administrative functions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drafting, analyzing, and reviewing legal documentations and contracts for the Project (including but not limited to the communication letters with counterparties like landlords, tri-party novation agreement to the lease agreement, termination agreement, other real estate contracts, etc.).
  • Providing legal advice with respect to the matters related to branch company establishment for retail stores in various cities/districts in China.
  • Communicating, connecting, and coordinating with both external parties (like agency) and internal stakeholders to ensure the smooth implementation of Project plans (including but not limited to application documentation preparation and on-time submission to authorities).
  • Working with business partners to improve and enhance various legal and business processes, including pipeline management and project management processes.
  • Reviewing and guiding business stakeholders to prepare business related documents.
  • Maintaining and updating the legal databases to make a good tracker on the progress/status of Project.
  • Performing legal research in relation to a wide range of legal, regulatory and compliance issues if necessary.
  • Translating contracts and other legal documentations as necessary.
  • Any other tasks assigned on ad hoc basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Graduate of a recognized law school either in China or abroad and admitted as a member of the legal profession in China, with at least 3 years’ experience either in the legal department of a multinational corporation or a law firm with an international practice.
  • Strong busines mindset, understanding of business, corporate governance, and regulatory issues. Experience in retail business and FMCG, sports company or retail industry would be a plus.
  • Good knowledge of the Chinese legal system and the main laws, i.e. company laws, real estate laws, civil law etc.
  • Ability to analyze complex legal problems and develop suitable solutions.
  • Must be willing to participate in a team oriented, consensus-building environment.
  • Must be fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese (speaking, reading and writing). 
  • Have good communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and responsive.

 

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum of 3 year of post-qualified experience in legal
