VP Product Operations – Sustainability & Materials (m/f/d)

 

Purpose

Drive material sustainability and concept innovation within a timeframe of 1.5 year to 3 years prior to retail introduction across Footwear and Apparel. 

Lead a team of experts focusing on innovation that brings positive impact to product sustainability and performance through exploration and implementation of technological and technical advancements.

In collaboration with Design, Futures, Marketing, Sourcing and BU Product Development, the function co-manages sustainable innovation pipelining and commercial implementation that will help fulfil the consumer demand for sustainable product and a clear communication to the consumer.

Ensures/Owns systems and processes, that enable traceability, transparency and governance.

Be the center of functional and technical expertise in Material sustainability and Innovation ensuring a constant improvement in the know-how and capabilities of relevant organizations.

Owns processes and tools to manage materials in the creation phase across BUs and development locations globally.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and drive strategy, planning and execution of material research and development capabilities and operating models supporting the delivery of sustainable innovation in our products for the company globally – across divisions and categories
  • Lead and manage the global sustainability and materials team including the functions of innovation, implementation, systems/tools and processes/governance
  • Partner closely with Creative Direction/ Horizontal Marketing team, BU/vertical category teams in building innovative, sustainable material technologies/solutions that support the product propositions requirements from the brand and GOPS
  • Build and evolve the organization, capabilities, and process/systems foundation to execute GOPS/POPS strategy – and deliver required product creation capabilities
  • Partner with POPS, Sourcing, S&P and Finance counterparts to create functional strategies that optimize results for the company
  • Provide the drive to challenge established processes and ways of working, with a view to facilitate innovation and generate synergies across categories and divisions
  • Drive leveraging of processes and operating models across category units and divisions to drive efficiency through harmonization and economies of scale
  • Represent sustainability and materials on steering committees of relevant key programs (in agreement with SVP POPS), which require GOPS/POPS of the overall Product Operations strategy
  • Manage ongoing analysis and identification of strategic industry trends and competitive activities
  • Act as the primary counterpart for Brand Strategy and CtC management for material/product-related, cross-category roll-out plans, and develop technologies to the point of handover to the category teams
  • Manage strategic supplier relationships (where applicable), ensuring establishment and administration of supply contracts – as well as planning and securing of material capacity
  • Oversee functional and technical capabilities development of the product creation, sourcing, and brand communities.
  • Contribute to the adidas sustainability strategy

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in business administration or similar
  • 15 years minimum progressive work experience in the Apparel & Footwear industry, specializing in Product Development and Sourcing or directly related field with appropriate management experience
