Assistant Manager Automation

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organisation:

Our Global Digital & eCommerce department leverages our digital capabilities beyond eCommerce to create a seamless consumer experience across all channels. Within this organization, we have a dedicated global eCommerce channel team to drive strong and sustainable growth and provide consumer journeys that delight on our .com or flagship adidas app.

While our market eCom teams run the business, our global eCom team enables and supports operational excellence. Functional experts in four subareas work above market and for all markets on Identifying areas that work well, scaling these and improving impact and standardization.

 

As Assistant Manager Global eCom Automation, you ensure we source, maintain and enrich the product data necessary for our products to be findable and searchable for our consumers on our website and app. Given the scale of this operation across 20+ attributes, 10+ clusters and thousands of product, this role has a strong automation component where you will use SQL databases, programming languages and other technology to improve manual processes.

You may also be asked to work on other automation opportunities within global eCom.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Enrichment

  • Drive the enrichment of product data, including attributes, filters, SEO-friendly keywords, and classifications across PIM, ERP, and eCommerce platforms.
  • Collaborate with Product Data, PIM, and content teams to maintain consistency and completeness across markets.
  • Maintain taxonomy and categorization structures aligned with merchandising strategies and customer navigation.
  • Proactively identify gaps or inefficiencies in current workflows and recommend solutions.
  • Execute regular data quality checks and lead data cleansing tasks.
  • Support testing and rollout of new attributes or system capabilities
  • Investigate and resolve data-related issues (e.g., incorrect specs live on site).
  • Document processes and contribute to continuous improvement of data governance policies.

 

Automation & Efficiency

  • Leverage automation tools, scripts, and rule-based engines to scale enrichment efforts across large article ranges globally.
  • Support the integration of AI/Machine Learning-based enrichment and validation.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities through automation and standardization.

 

Trading & Reporting

  • Track product data quality, enrichment completeness, traffic, conversion and sales.
  • Make data-driven decisions to improve product visibility, reduce returns, and enhance consumer experienec.
  • Partner with Global Digital Analytics where requested to accelerate, build and adopt the next generation of Data Products (Plan/Trade/Run the business & Consumer Journey)
  • Stay up to date on changes in consumer landscape, site operation and product presentations for competitors and benchmarks and translate these into tangible merchandising actions.

 

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with local market data teams, global and local merchandising, product creation, and tech teams to ensure alignment on product readiness and go-to-market timelines.
  • Actively participate in brand milestones like The Handover, Go To Market Sign-off and local buying milestones to understand consequences of new product pipeline for eCom plan.
  • Together with partner teams, pro-actively identify key business priorities (‘big bets’) for eCom to guide local trading teams during brand milestones.
  • Facilitate working sessions with local market teams as required.

REQUIREMENTS

Education & Professional experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science (or the equivalent)
  • 2 years’ hands-on experience in automation or data management
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices for product data is a plus

 

Hard skills

  • Experience in Amazon Web Services (AWS)/ Microsoft Azure/ Google Cloud Platform (GCP) 
  • Experience working with any SQL database such as Exasol, Teradata, Vertica, Vectorwise, Oracle, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, Redshift, any other SQL database is also acceptable etc. 
  • Experience working with programing languages such as Python, JavaScript, scala etc. 
  • Experience working with distributed technology tools/Big Data Frameworks, including Spark, Hadoop, Storm, Presto, Scala, Python, Databricks, Airflow, Hive, Pig, MapReduce. Derivatives such as pySpark, SparkScala, or SparkSQL are also acceptable 
  • Experience working in Agile and Scrum development process 
  • Working knowledge of Orchestration tools such as Airflow, Jenkins, Oozie, Luigi, Apache Nifi etc. 
  • Working knowledge of Continuous Integration CI/CD and Automated Test tools such as Jenkins, Groovy (for Jenkins scripting), Artifactory, Git, Ansible 
  • Working knowledge of big data real time streaming tools, including Spark, Kinesis, Kafka 
  • Working knowledge of API integration such as REST or SOAP 
  • Must be familiar with the Agile Methodologies - Scrum or Kanban 
  • Experience with Docker for building, deploying, and managing containerised applications, and Kubernetes for automating container orchestration, scaling, and management in a cloud-native environment.
