Director Decision Science

General Purpose

As Director of Decision Science, you are responsible for the development of data solutions using the full analytics toolkit across the full analytics cycle: from framing business need, data exploration and modelling to operationalization. You will work with various stakeholders and product owners to identify the most impactful opportunities for the application of data. You will guide your team in developing data solutions that optimize decision making and consumer experiences. You will guide the evolution of the adidas data analytics ecosystem by developing and implementing new practices. You will also hold the business accountable that data capabilities are being used to drive value.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Consulting
·    Partner with our business teams to make well-informed decisions backed by Digital data.
·    Apply expertise in data analytics and statistics to answer key business questions.
·    Focus on understanding and analyzing data from the past and present perspectives to produce reliable insights for our stakeholders.
·    Translate data insights into actions and recommendations that will drive membership, digital growth, and other key initiatives.
·    Understand stakeholders through feedback sessions to ensure deliverables are relevant to changing needs and expectations.
·    Educate stakeholders on the value of data capabilities and hold them accountable on the use of them within their team and organization.
·    Empower the business to use data with confidence through upskilling and self-service capabilities.
·    Provide input into the adidas data strategy to identify opportunities for the development of data assets.
·    Along with business partners define the problem, formulate hypotheses and the decision-making parameters. Leading the definition of the appropriate data points required to support effective decision making.

Analytics / Reporting

·    Advise on the development quantitative analysis, tools, ad hoc reports and models to support decision making. Analysis areas might include (but not limited to): members’ lifecycle management, consumer engagement, digital marketing and business performance.
·    Advise on the production of data visualization such as charts, infographics, and dashboards to communicate findings and actionable recommendations to internal stakeholders clearly and effectively.
·    Work as part of Agile product teams (e.g. Scrum / Kanban) to deliver business value.
·    Explore and define new reporting approaches and lead their implementation.
·    Coordinate and supervise the application of the full analytics toolset to optimize decision making and customer experience.
·    Drive continuous improvement and expansion of analytics capabilities/toolset.

Product Ownership

·    Specify the product vision and roadmap as well as user stories for respective data product.
·    Drive the evolution of the product, prioritize the items in your product backlog. Specify the definition-of-done in cooperation with the product team(s).
·    Foster a strong relationship with key stakeholders to ensure that their views and requirements are captured in the product backlog.
·    Design, manage and analyze product tests to understand optimization opportunities.
·    Understand the project requirements to select appropriate approach to deliver the product.

People Management

·    Create a supportive work environment in which employees are coached, trained and provided with career opportunities through development.
·    Provide team members/direct reports with clear direction and targets that are aligned with business needs and Digital/Digital Analytics objectives.
·    Experience in managing a team.
·    Continuously monitor and evaluate team workload, to identify areas of improvement and ensure that team resources are being used appropriately.

REQUIREMENTS

Education & Professional Experience
·    A degree in mathematics, economics, statistics, computer science or a similar quantitative field.
·    10+ years of experience in data analytics, data modeling, decision science or a similar function, applying experimentation methods to test various hypotheses for generating consumer / product / marketing / business insights and influencing data-driven decision making.
·    5+ years of professional experience in an international & cross-functional environment.
·    Proven experience of leading an analytics function in a client-oriented structure.

Hard-Skills

·    Experience finding, cleaning and transforming large data sets to build reports, dashboards and / or data assets.
·    Statistical modeling and data analysis experience (e.g. significance testing, regression modeling, sampling theory etc.) and knowledge of linear algebra, calculus, probability and statistics.
·    Experience using Python, R or a similar scripting language for statistical modeling. Extensive knowledge of packages such as NumPy, Pandas etc. Knowledge of Spark would be an added advantage.
·    Experience with SQL (e.g. aggregate functions, joins) NoSQL or other data querying languages.
·    Good data visualization skills e.g. Tableau, MicroStrategy, Power BI, matplotlib, plotly or something similar.
·    Experience working with tech teams e.g. IT, data science and data governance.

·    Understanding of machine learning / deep learning would be a plus as well.
·    Comfortable working with enterprise-level platforms and technologies e.g. databricks.
·    Fluent in English both verbally and written.

·    Good interpersonal skills to develop influential and collaborative relationships internally and externally of the organization.
·    Clear written and oral communication skills.
