Senior Director - Social, Environmental Affairs & Field Operations
Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organisation:
- Senior Director of SEA Field Operations (FO) manages and oversees social and labour compliance for all outsourced manufacturing activities within the designated region.
- Senior Director of SEA FO supports the Global Head/VP SEA in developing relevant strategies to manage social compliance and ensure business partners’ adherence to Workplace Standards within the designated region.
- Senior Director of SEA FO engages with stakeholders, including non-governmental and governmental organizations, within the designated region to further adidas’ goals, reputation, and transparency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation of Workplace Standards and associated social compliance programmes in the region. In particular clarify, advise and guide business partners, partner factories and other suppliers on the application of the adidas Workplace Standards and associated guidelines and policies.
- Identify the areas of greatest risk to adidas with respect to working conditions and standards. Provide the Global Head/VP SEA recommendations in respect of those risks, based on legal obligations and the application of our Workplace Standards, guidelines and operating policies.
- Oversee the implementation of the supplier performance evaluation framework (e.g., SI-KPIs), and lead troubleshooting efforts to address concerns raised by Sourcing leadership and supplier senior management teams.
- Support the Global Head/VP SEA in the development of SEA strategic projects and provide advice on to enhance the efficiency and agility of SEA internal processes.
- Develop the regional strategy and work plan to support the implementation of SEA program priorities and the achievement of program targets and milestones and report it to Global Head/VP SEA.
- Trouble-shoot and resolve high risk compliance situations and cases in the supply chain in the designated region
- Liaise, coordinate and align compliance approaches and strategies across all regions: Asia, EMEA, Americas
- Develop and provide regular guidance, training and updates to all business units and staff of brands within adidas with sourcing activities within the designated region.
- Supervise the overall impact of the social compliance monitoring programme and define approaches and ways to enhance and improve supplier performance, through capacity building and training and measurement and reporting.
- Where appropriate, carry out advisory and training in other regions.
- Define the areas of accountability for direct reports and provide objective means for assessing the performance of these team members
- Assist in the training of Directors, Senior Manager, Manager within the SEA team to fulfil their potential and capabilities, including act as mentor to team members
- Role model leadership to foster a culture of Diversity Equity & Inclusion that strives for an inclusive workplace.
- Develop and coach team to ensure the best standards of performance, appropriate skillsets and strong succession plans are in place.
Authorities:
- Manage direct reports and their delivery of the field operations and social compliance in the designated region
- Signing SEA Warning Letter, Memorandum and other official SEA communication within the designated region
- Act as the second-in-change and deputize, when required, for Global Head/VP SEA during any absence
- Where required act as an official Spokesperson for adidas on labour and social compliance issues, policies and approaches as per adidas Media Protocol
Key Relationships:
- Engage with the VP Sourcing and other relevant members of the Sourcing Leadership Team in the region, as well as market leadership and business units actively sourcing in the designated region, to integrate our Workplace Standards and related policies and requirements into broader adidas business practices.
- Engage with our T1 strategic manufacturing partners (under aSL) and other suppliers in the designated region to integrate our Workplace Standards and associated requirements into their business management practices and strategies.
- Lead the engagement and dialogue with third parties, including NGOs, trade unions, Government bodies, competitor brands, industry associations and multi-stakeholder initiatives in the designated region to further the goals and transparency of the SEA programme.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Good written and spoken English and skills in business communications
- Broad knowledge of government affairs and regulatory structures in the designated region
- In depth knowledge of labour, human rights, occupational health and safety and environmental laws and regulations in countries within the designated region
- Experience in managing labour relations and trade union rights and issues
- Experience in development and managing stakeholder engagement with non-governmental organization and advocacy groups
- Experience in staff management and the mentoring and development of staff in managing social compliance in global supply chains
- Ability to act as a strategic thinking and develop policies, strategies and approaches to tackle social compliance in global supply chains
Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:
- University degree or Master level of related fields
- A minimum of 12 + years’ experience in managing social compliance in global supply chains
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing teams
- Experience in CSR-related issues, human rights, health & safety, environment, CSR-management in private/public sectors
- In depth knowledge in labour law, health & safety and environmental regulations for countries within the region
- Language skills: English fluency; other local languages in the region is preferable
