Director, Logistics Operations

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization:

The Director Transport & Logistics Operations is accountable for the end-to-end inbound logistics operations [from origins to destination ports] with the overall objective to achieve the agreed service [OTIF] and cost levels, while keeping a high level of responsiveness and flexibility to the adidas Market organizations. In addition, the Director Transport & Logistics is responsible for the documentation of the end-to-end logistics processes globally. Furthermore, the role will support the Sr. director in defining the overall strategic road map for Logistics operations globally.

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Lead the logistics operations, i.e. adidas Group’s 3PLs [air and sea] and the shipping lines, for the respective region to achieve an efficient execution of the operations deliverables. Next to other activities it includes the monitoring of 3PL and Freight Forwarders overall performance, root cause analysis of failed performance KPIs and definition of follow up/improvement actions.
  • Provide expertise and requirements for procurement of 3PL and the carrier services. Lead the collection, validation and documentation, IT system requirements with all stakeholders to ensure that correct services can be purchased fulfilling customers’ needs.
  • Responsible for ensuring that end to end logistics operations and IT requirements are considered when implementing global projects. Therefore, he/she needs to provide input to global project teams ensuring a proper fulfilment of our requirements and achieve harmonized standards.
  • Responsible for ensuring 3PL performance towards accurate KPI and that (operational) and tonnage reports are maintained to facilitate analysis requests from different stakeholders.
  • Lead regular audits to ensure transportation logistics processes are met and fulfilled internal customer needs. Provide feedback where re-engineering of process is needed. Ensure improvement opportunities are identified, recommendations are provided.
  • Drive the implementation of new defined transportation logistics processes with 3PL and carriers for all modes of transports.
  • Drive effective communication and collaboration channels between the Markets Inbound teams, 3PLs, carriers, LO and factories in responsible sourcing origins.
  • Be a subject matter expert and a SPOC for all transport modes.
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with sales subsidiaries, Markets SCM and other stakeholders to make sure local / global requirements are understood and executed correctly.
  • Design efficient and cost-effective transportation end to end logistics infrastructures and processes for customization program / teams.
  • Lead the implementation of new transportation solutions for the market’s supply chain and commercial organizations while supporting the needs of the business.
  • Manage market developments/trends and business risks for the respective modes.

People Management

  • Build the appropriate structure to be able to manage the respective organization effectively, identify and develop the future talents and create realistic succession scenarios for key positions
  • Ability to lead, influence and gain cooperation from individuals without solid reporting line
  • Ensure appropriate leadership skills are present at every level through creating a motivational and supportive work environment in which employees are coached, trained and provided with career opportunities through development. 
  • Allocate the different topics and work streams to the respective teams and employees considering experience, complexity, workload and organizational efficiency.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate team workload and organizational efficiency with the support of systems, data and analysis and feedback and make changes to meet business needs.

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

  • A 4-year degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis on the areas of business, economics, logistics, planning, supply chain, information systems, or operations; MBA a plus
  • +10 years of work experience, ideally in an apparel/fashion supply chain management or a fast-moving logistics environment, particularly related to supplier/contract, project and supply chain management including an overall logistics responsibility.
  • Experience in multi-national transportation logistics and project management with the drive and energy to implement change.
