Specialist, Financial Accountant (12-Month Contract)

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization:

 

This role is responsible for core financial accounting activities, including month‑end close, accounts payable, and supporting year‑end audit and statutory reporting. The position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with accounting standards and local statutory requirements, while supporting the accuracy and integrity of the organisation’s financial records.


The role also works closely with internal and offshore teams, including the Global Business Services (GBS) accounts payable team, and supports the financial management of sales and marketing activities. In addition, the role is involved in preparing regular and ad‑hoc financial reports and continuously identifying opportunities to improve collaboration and processes across finance teams.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage month‑end close activities, including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations and financial postings
  • Support the GBS accounts payable team by responding to queries and resolving issues
  • Manage accounts payable activities, including purchase orders and invoice coding
  • Prepare calculations and inputs for all New Zealand tax submissions
  • Prepare and process weekly manual payment runs
  • Support sales and marketing activities through rebate and trade terms processes
  • Assist with year‑end audit and statutory accounts in partnership with external advisors
  • Act as Local Authorisation Co‑ordinator for Pacific, including SAP user access reviews
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and deliver accurate, practical solutions
  • Maintain and administer the finance and business contract database for Pacific
  • Complete and submit local government statistical surveys, covering financial and non‑financial data
  • Provide support to the Senior Manager, Accounting on global, regional and local finance projects

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

  • Proactive self‑starter who can work independently and take a hands‑on approach
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
  • High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and quality
  • Ability to plan, organise and manage priorities effectively
  • Comfortable working to deadlines and handling periods of increased workload
  • Team‑focused mindset with the ability to work cross‑functionally
  • Experience with SAP is highly desirable
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required

 

Requisite Education & Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Finance or Accounting
  • Experience in a similar Financial Accountant role
  • CPA or CA qualification, or currently working towards completion
