Director Retail Expansion South (Zaragoza, Paris, Milano or Athens based)
Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization:
This role focuses on maximizing profitability across adidas’ Retail and Franchise Portfolio in South Europe (France, Iberia, Italy, and South East Europe) . Key responsibilities include securing real estate, managing investments, negotiating leases, and ensuring financial targets are met. It will optimize store structures by aligning Wholesale, Retail, and Franchise strategies, while maintaining strong landlord relations. The role also supports the implementation of DTC and CTC tools, processes, and ensures efficient CAPEX and store maintenance management
Key Responsibilities:
Overall
- Identify and evaluate all Real Estate opportunities through sites visits, site selection metrics and criteria, demographic analysis and research to ensure the best locations for the brand are secured.
- Contribute to the creation of the strategic market growth plan, including store targets, market targets, etc.
- Negotiate letters of intent and key Lease deal points to the brand advantage.
- Work with various retail departments to attain internal alignment on site opportunities and sales projections.
- Present adidas retail concepts to prospective landlords.
- Evaluate existing store portfolio to actively drive rent reductions, recommended lease renewals and terminations. Negotiate renewals and extensions where appropriate.
- Overall management responsibility for the execution and maintenance of all Own retail and Franchise (Franchise TBC based on additional resource being provided) store concept implementations within respective countries - in line with CtC/DtC tools, processes and service structure, ensuring health & safety measures are followed at all times.
- Provide leadership and coaching to your RE and SD managers to execute the aforementioned tools with consistency and to a high standard.
- Work with SDSD, Market SD, RD’s, Finance and F&M managers to define & set SLAs with all Store Development related maintenance partners for later management by the Market Maintenance Specialist. Implementation and ongoing management of the F&M portal in all designated markets.
Projects
- Execute Retail Expansion processes developed for Europe within respective countries, executing best in class standards for the management of internal stakeholders and external consultants.
- Manage multiple implementation projects across all designated markets, ensuring high standards of portfolio execution and consistency of retail experience between OR and FR.
- Work with the above market European Retail Expansion teams so that projects are briefed in detail and on time to ensure BPM presentations are ready, store designs can be executed, and fixtures orders can be placed in line with required lead times to assure in time fulfillment ready for flawless implementation.
- Implement DTC guidelines within Market ensuring these are understood (including acquiring translations where necessary.)
- Execute end to end cost tracking from Capex creation in line with market benchmarks, through live project invoice/PO tracking through to SAP alignment of final accounts in all markets.
- Stay within budgets, generate efficiency to achieve 10% buffer for unexpected expenditure.
- Report quality issues in real time using provided standardized processes & documents.
- Initiate reverse logistics of excess equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Leadership.
- Management ability and competency to manage landlords, brokers, developers and operators.
- Strong inside knowledge processes management of in store implementation, architects, regional sourcing, legal partners and GCs.
- Ability to thing strategically, define business opportunities and problems, collect, interpret and analyze abstract and concrete information, and create strategic, value-adding solutions.
- Strong presentation skills
- Excellent negotiation skills and ability to influence others.
- Advanced numeracy, literacy and verbal communication skills
- Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office
- AutoCAD skills an advantage
- Fluency in English and any of local language of South Europe.
- Geographical mobility
Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) with an emphasis in Real Estate, Law or Finance / MBA preferred.
- 8-10 years retail specific Retail Expansion site selection experience.
- Minimum 8-10 years’ experience managing / negotiating external consultants and contractors.
- Strong relationships and credibility within the Retail Expansion industry.
- Exposure to operations & Visual Merchandising beneficial
- Passport and ability to travel throughout Europe.
