Assistant Manager, Planning

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization:

Support Planner with providing financial guidance to DTC merchandising and finance teams to meet or exceed target KPIs. Assist with the development of seasonal plans, managing and reporting of sales, margin, and inventory. Make recommendations and collaborate with merchandising team to achieve forecast/plan expectations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Retail Planner and Merchants in building option plans by channel and class for each store that maximizes sales and profit while aligning with space capacity
  • In partnership with Planner and Merchants, lead the pre-season OTB process developing seasonal sales, margin, receipt, and markdown plans that rolls up to a plan that meets the agreed forecast numbers
  • In partnership with Planner and Merchants, analyze, review and recommend strategies to maximize sales, turns and gross margin
  • Analyze the results of promotions and markdowns, making recommendations to support business goals
  • Participate in major go-to-market milestones to gain insight to key seasonal brand and BU strategies and initiatives, contributing financial plans for DTC outlook
  • Generate weekly reporting needs as determined by the planning department
  • Construct and deliver daily, weekly and monthly reports to Planning Director for trend management and business analysis
  • Support planning department with ad hoc data reporting and analysis needs, including product selling, inventory position and promotional/pricing results
  • Collect and compile qualitative information from various departments (i.e. marketing, merchandising, promotions) for use in planning, forecasting and variance analysis
  • Create and maintain internal tool to track and utilize historical division and store-level activities for sales trending and forecasting
  • Responsible for assigned business category and/or channel, including managing the respective open to buy. Build pre-season style plans and recommend investment quantities and accurate flow forecasts and ensure appropriate data is loaded into planning system
  • Assistant Planner responsibilities will vary slightly based on the category and channel supported (Factory Outlet, Full-Price B&M, eCommerce, or 3rd Party/League)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity accessing data from a database structure
  • Familiarity with the athletic industry, trends and/or athletic product lines preferred
  • Familiarity with Retail KPI’s and retail math a must
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and familiarity with merchandising systems/applications
  • Advanced Excel skills, and a thorough understanding of pivot tables, formulas, formatting, etc.
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Good planning and organization skills, resulting in the ability to meet critical deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills and a thorough understanding of retail math
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to manipulate large amounts of data and create reporting tools from data
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously
  • Ability to successfully multi-task and problem-solve
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Open to the potential of domestic travel occasionally

 

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years experience in reporting and analysis
  • Prior experience creating and publishing reports
  • Inventory management experience a plus
  • Experience in retail or consumer products industry a plus
