VP Marketplace Management

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization: 

Develop and lead the implementation of adidas China marketplace management strategies, lead and drive retail expansion, fleet optimization and trade zone transformation to ultimately develop and retain a strong brand-led distribution network in China and foster the business growth of offline channels. 

 

Key Responsibilities:  

General Planning and Management 

  • Develop adidas long-term, mid-term marketplace management strategics to develop and retain a strong distribution network 

  • Define POS development plans and key trade zone marketplace strategies with own retail and franchise business leaders to enable strong and sustainable business development in offline channels 

  • Drive the implementation of yearly retail expansion plans and monitor the opening, remodeling processes of key projects 

  • Oversee landlord portfolio, define long-term landlord cooperation strategies and maintain strategic partnership with key landlords 

  • Gain insights of marketplace trends, define opportunities and risks and integrate into strategics and plans 

 

Retail Expansion   

  • Build and maintain strong landlord partnership in regions to ensure a high-quality, brand-building distribution network for both own retail and franchise 

  • Proactively search and negotiate the right location for new POS and improve the location and space of existing POS 

  • Manage and implement the yearly and quarterly retail expansion plan  

  • Gain competitor intelligence and interpret into marketplace strategic planning 

 

Landlord Partnership 

  • Strengthen strategic landlord relationship and collaborate closely with landlords to win the competition in the marketplace 

  • Enhance the cooperation efficiency with key landlord from individual project mode to national holistic mode 

  • Develop the cooperation strategies with different landlords and maintain the landlord portfolio 

Store Allocation & Asset Management 

  • Define the policies and procedures of own retail, franchise POS opening, ensure the communication is timely and effectively 

  • Co-manage the POS allocation with franchise management to support marketplace development with customers 

  • Develop POS planning, track and forecast store opening progress  

  • Lead the overall management of own retail and franchise opening support, including capex management, asset management, BPM approval  

 

Store Development Project Management 

  • Drive the end-to-end project management for new store opening and remodeling 

  • Manage the store construction of adidas own retail stores and franchise key stores to ensure the high-quality of store image and brand equity is delivered to consumers 

  • Develop and implement store maintenance to ensure store operations safety  

 

KPI: 

  • Net sales achievement and operating profit achievement of Offline Channels 

  • Sell-out growth of Offline Channels 

  • Delivery results of store network and remodelling 

  • Capex efficiency enhancement 

  • store expansion achievement 

  • key category business achievement  

 

Key Relationships:  

  • Internal: Senior Leadership Team, Franchise Account Sales team, Retail Operations team, Consumer Experience, Finance, Non-trade Procurement, Legal  

  • External: Landlord, franchise customers 

 

Requirements: 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Strong business sense and critical-thinking ability – able to solve problems using both conventional judgment and ad-hoc analysis 

  • Strong leadership & management skills 

  • Strong strategic planning and implementation 

  • Strong industry knowledge 

  • Strong relationship and knowledge about local landlords 

  • Remarkable negotiation skills and great influencing skills 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with all counterparts 

 

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:  

  • 15+ years of general business management experience 

  • Bachelor in related field required, MBA preferred 

  • Rich experience with a global consumer goods brand and/or modern retailer 

  • Fluent written and spoken English and Mandarin
