Senior Specialist Customs Classification​

 

Purpose: 

Senior Specialist Customs Classification collaborates closely with the Team Lead and other Customs Specialists to ensure accurate product classification in accordance with country-specific customs regulations. This role is responsible for classifying footwear, apparel, accessories, and other products, and serves as a backup for other team members. Additionally, the position provides classification related support to other departments.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse products according to the information in adidas systems and by consulting with developers to determine the correct customs codes for various regions, ensuring compliance with local regulations, within defined timelines.
  • Support all team members on classification topics over all divisions as a backup function.
  • Collaborate with and manage external service providers involved in customs classification process, ensuring service quality, compliance with regulations, and alignment with internal standards.
  • Maintain classification data in relevant systems and propose improvements to enhance data quality.  
  • Obtain binding rulings for new or ambiguous products and build up a close communication with customs authorities.
  • Provide training and support on classification processes and systems, facilitating knowledge transfer and cross-functional alignment.
  • Contribute to the design, development, and testing of classification solutions.
  • Create and deliver presentations and training sessions for Product Development on the impact of recent customs regulation changes.
  • Advise Product Development, Product Costing, and other stakeholders on product modifications to reduce duty rates and minimize customs risks.
  • Foster strong, trust-based relationships with all relevant internal and external partners.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of classification rules and customs regulations
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret and explain governmental regulations
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking
  • High attention to detail

 

Requisite Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in customs or international trade
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in customs operations or a related field (preferably in the textile or footwear industry)
  • Experience with ERP/Customs systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent English Language skills (written and spoken)
