Manager, Strategy Planning

Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization:

The Manager, Strategy Planning role will help drive the development of the holistic NAM market strategy. The role translates market and business analysis into actionable insights to enable executive decision-making through best-in-class data analysis & synthesis, planning discipline, insights delivery, and strategic narrative building.

 

Key Responsibilities:

NAM Market Strategic Planning process

  • Support the NAM strategic planning process for the future 2–5-year period built with channel, category, and finance frameworks (e.g., market diagnosis, strategy formulation, document development, local alignment, global presentations, communication packages, etc.)
  • Deliver the NAM strategy and roadmap in cooperation with cross-functional partners including support on project teams, acceleration plans, gap plans, etc.
  • Support other regular and ad-hoc strategic planning activities (e.g., business reviews, category analysis, and channel assessments)

 

Data analysis and decision support

  • Develop financial and quantitative models relevant to strategy planning (e.g., business simulation, revenue projection, market share development, financial statement analysis)
  • Synthesize data and prepare analysis to support senior management decision-making on priority topics (typically working cross-functionally)

 

Strategic document and communications development

  • Develop strategic presentations and business planning documents at market level
  • Assist in the development of executive level presentations and reporting

 

Market Insights

  • Develop and manage data sources and central data repository of market, macroeconomic, industry, competitor, and retailer intelligence – both qualitative and quantitative
  • Create and distribute regular reports to senior management and broader organization with focus on actionable insights based on current industry and market trends
  • Identify key market developments with insights for consideration in planning and decision-making for strategic business planning
  • Synthesize insights for strategic business planning and initiatives that advance market growth

  • Solid business acumen and critical-thinking: able to solve problems using both conventional judgment and ad-hoc analysis to formulate structured solutions
  • Strong analytic skills: both quantitative (e.g., financial modelling, data analysis) and qualitative (e.g., market trends, competitor analysis)
  • Strong communication skills: clear written and verbal communication to stakeholders at various organizational levels
  • Advanced MS Excel user: experienced in complex financial modelling (i.e., P&L, bottom-up revenue forecasts)
  • Strong MS PowerPoint user: experienced PowerPoint & Think Cell user with storytelling abilities 
  • Entrepreneurial: proven self-starter with the ability to think and act strategically to proactively define goals and attack them with creativity
  • Willingness to learn: drive to learn about all aspects of the business and develop general management competency

 

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of general business experience, ideally in top-tier consulting firm, investment banking, corporate strategy, or related fields
  • MBA or advanced degree in relevant field a plus
  • Experience with a global apparel / consumer goods brand or retailer is preferred
  • Able to work with functional leaders across teams
  • Strong statistics / market research knowledge
  • Strong communication skills, written and spoken

For work requiring a high degree of collaboration or an in-person presentation, in-office attendance is required even on Friday. The working location of this position is Portland, OR.
