Assistant Manager Retail CS Buying

PURPOSE & OVERALL RELEVANCE FOR THE ORGANISATION: 

The Assistant Manager Retail CS Buying is responsible for supporting the execution of inline category buying across merchandising planning, store clustering, article selection and depth planning. This role provides sales analysis, market and trend insights, and fact-based recommendations to support business performance, assortment effectiveness and informed decision-making. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Pre-Season Buying: 

· Support the development of buying structures and pre-season buying proposals by store /cluster level, leveraging historical performance data and business insights. 

· Conduct article-level analysis to identify key growth drivers, best-selling articles and improvement opportunities for low-performing articles. 

· Prepare channel, store cluster and distribution proposals in line with commercial priorities, range direction and local consumer needs. 

· Track buying quantities against budget and support alignment between the buy plan and merchandise plan. 

Assortment Planning: 

· Support the development of assortment plans by channel and store cluster, based on range architecture, local market requirements and the commercial calendar. 

· Support product and store segmentation by aligning product segments with store cluster requirements and business priorities. 

· Contribute to seasonal assortment strategy development for Monobrand stores by incorporating segmentation, local market needs and sell-out performance insights. 

· Develop and communicate clear store cluster-level merchandising recommendations to OPS team to fully achieve alignment on future plan. 

Post-Season Review: 

· Prepare post-season analysis and documentation to support seasonal review discussions and decision-making. 

· Deliver seasonal deep-dive analysis to capture key learnings, consumer insights and opportunities to improve future buying and assortment planning. 

· Work with cross-functional teams to translate post-season insights into actionable recommendations for upcoming seasons. 

Others 

· Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Line Manager to support team and business priorities. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

Good knowledge of product, merchandising and retail buying principles. 

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions. 

Ability to influence stakeholders through fact-based recommendations, clear communication and effective relationship management. 

Strong analytical capability, with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into business recommendations. 

Learning agility and openness to feedback, with a commitment to continuous improvement. 

 

REQUISITE EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER SKILLS 

Bachelor’s degree or above; 3–5 years of relevant experience in the consumer goods, retail, merchandising or buying field preferred. 

Good understanding of retail business, consumer behaviour, channel dynamics and store-level execution. 

Proficiency in Excel modelling, with the ability to develop practical tools and templates to support merchandising and retail teams. 

Proficiency in PowerPoint and presentation preparation, with the ability to communicate analysis and recommendations clearly.
